Data Sources and Methodology

City of Boca Raton public business tax and licence files — the authoritative source for active status, licence class and licence numbers.

Boca Chamber active member directory, BocaRaton.com business directory, Boca Raton Observer Business Guide and the 4Boca business directory — used to enrich listings with categories, descriptions, websites and contact details.

Names, addresses, phone numbers, emails and web domains are normalised to a consistent format. Records are merged when they share a phone number, a web domain, a City licence number, or an identical name at the same standardised address.

Close but uncertain matches are held in an editorial review queue rather than merged automatically. Multiple locations of the same company are preserved as separate listings.

A listing is marked City verified active when it appears in the current City licence data. Listings supported only by other directories are published as likely active, and are checked again at each synchronisation.

Websites are checked server-side, following up to three redirects. A single timeout never marks a business closed. Parked domains are flagged for review.

Listings that disappear from every source for three consecutive synchronisation cycles are hidden rather than deleted, so they can be restored if they reappear.

Only businesses with a Boca Raton postal address, including West Boca, are published. Records from regional directories that fall outside that scope are excluded.

Public pages are requested with a descriptive user agent, at no more than one request per second per domain, with exponential backoff and a strict retry limit. We honour robots directives and never bypass logins, paywalls or access controls.
